## There is no universal best platform

The right choice depends on your products, budget, technical resources and selling markets. Use this shortlist to decide what to investigate, rather than treating the order as a ranking.

## Start your shortlist

- [Shopify](/reviews/shopify/) — explore a hosted store with themes and apps.
- [WooCommerce](/reviews/woocommerce/) — explore commerce within WordPress, with your own hosting choice.
- [BigCommerce](/reviews/bigcommerce/) — explore hosted commerce and options for complex business requirements.
- [Squarespace](/reviews/squarespace/) — explore website design and commerce together.
- [Wix](/reviews/wix/) — explore a visual site builder with online selling tools.

## Write down your non-negotiables

List your product types, required payment methods, shipping regions and essential integrations. Then set a realistic monthly operating budget that includes processing, extensions and support.

## Validate before you migrate

Test product imports, redirects, order handling and data exports. A small trial with representative data is more useful than a long list of features.

## How this shortlist was prepared

This starting shortlist uses the providers’ public information, linked in each overview. It is not a scored ranking or a record of hands-on tests. See our [editorial policy](/editorial-policy/) for the current scope.
